Present a workshop entitled:

A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing. Working with Narcissistic Victim Abuse followed by the Midalnds Regional AGM

Presenter: Christine Louis de Canonville's (B.A. Hons; MIACP;MTCI;MPNLP, CMH;CHyp.) is an Author, Psychotherapist, Supervisor, External Examiner, Lecturer, and specialist in Narcissistic Victim Syndrome (NVS). She worked in the Trauma Unit of St. Brendan's psychiatric hospital, and has worked specifically with victims of narcissistic abuse both in her private practice and internationally for many years.

Much of Christine's knowledge has come from her post-grad studies in Criminology and Forensic Psychology, and it is through these disciplines that she has gained her understanding of The Dark Triad, (Narcissism, Machiavellianism, and Psychopathy), better understood by health providers under the terms of the narcissist, malignant narcissist and psychopath. These Three Faces of Evil are vital information for understanding the full spectrum of narcissistic abuse. It is her vision that narcissistic abuse becomes part of the curriculum of all Mental Health Professionals and other professionals who deal with the fallout of this insidious abuse (i.e. Psychotherapists, Social Workers, Police, Doctors, Solicitors, Law Courts, HR management, etc.).

Workshop Outline: This workshop primarily concentrates on looking at "narcissistic personality traits" among the normal population - behaviours and attitudes that may or may not go far enough to warrant a clinical diagnosis. However, this behaviour is bad enough to cause total destruction to unsuspecting people as they try to live their lives. This common type narcissism is the cause of most hardship done to individuals within families, romantic relationships, friendships, and the workplace. It is these victims of narcissistic abuse that end up in the therapy daily. However, most therapists are ill equipped to recognise unhealthy narcissism in the therapy room, or the effects of narcissistic abuse on the victim.

10.00am - 11.30 am.A Brief Understanding of "Narcissism"? Examine the 9 DSM criteria for identifying a narcissistic personality? (1) Grandiosity, (2) Power, (3) Special, (4) Attention, (5) Entitlement (6) Exploitative, (7) a lack of Empathy, (8) Envy, (9) Arrogant and Haughty behaviours. Demonstrate why narcissistis need and crave "NARCISSISTIC SUPPLY"

11.30am - 12.00pm Tea Break

12.00 - 1.30pm Do an analysis of two character sketch cases. Using 2 short case studies (as a group) we shall use "forensic psychology" to make a psychological profile and critical examination of two unknown individuals (Gerard & Gary). We shall be using the 9 DSM Criteria (learned earlier) to deduce whether these clients are displaying normal healthy narcissism, or adnormal pathological narcissism. Clearly this information becomes very important for knowing how to move forward in the therapeutic process with a client.

Q & A Time

Training Level: All Levels

CPD certificates will be emailed to participants after attendance at the Workshop.
