Therapeutic Presence and the Present Moment

 

Presenters Bio's: Gerry Cunningham came to study psychotherapy and postgraduate level (Dublin City University) from an academic background firmly rooted in the humanities (MA in Spirituality, BA in Philosophy).He has been extensively trained in Mindfulness-based approaches and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. (PG Diploma in CBT, University of Oxford, Masters, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, University of Oxford, PG, Diploma in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, University of Cambridge. He has attended training with some of the leading names in Mindfulness and CBT including Jon Kabat-Zinn (MBSR), Mark Williams, John Teasdale and Zindel Segal (MBCT), Aaron Beck (Cognitive Therapy) and the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice of Bangor University. Gerry has a private practice at the Mindfulness Clinic and provides tailored treatment approaches to CBT, counselling & psychotherapy, supervision and reflective practice. He is currently pursuing research interests at the University of Cambridge.

Workshop Outline: Creatively reflect upon and integrate theories of presence and relationship from Humanistic, Existential, Cognitive and Eastern approaches and the neurobiology of therapeutic presence. Explore how mindfulness may facilitate and nuture therapeutic qualities. Learn to connect deeply with clients. Engage in the art of mindful listenng and cultivate wisdom and compassion for self, clients and relationships. mange self-care and reflective practice. Create reflective and meditative space.
