IACP accepts the licensure from the regulated countries for the purpose of IACP accreditation. 

regulated countries

IACP now accepts the licensure from the following countries:

  • United States   
  • Italy
  • Canada (Ontario, Québec and Nova Scotia only)              
  • Liechtenstein
  • Austria
  • The Netherlands
  • Finland
  • Sweden
  • Germany            
  • Switzerland
  • Malta

The Application process

To apply please complete the form available on this page using CAPITAL LETTERS and return to the IACP, First Floor, Marina House, 11-13 Clarence Street, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.

The applicant from one of the above countries must provide the following information:

  1. A copy of foreign qualifications 
  2. A copy of a valid licence issued by the country of origin
  3. Proof of completion of a minimum 50 hours of personal therapy (in training or after training) - e.g. a signed letter from personal therapist attended confirming the hours completed or a letter from a training institution confirming that it was a course requirement.
  4. Proof of setting up a contract with an Accredited Supervisor (IACP,BACP, IAHIP) in line with current Supervision criteria and attend at least one session with this supervisor before applying
  5. A copy of insurance from the country where they are currently practicing
  6. Current and Valid Garda Vetting/ Police Clearance Certificate
  7. The application fee: €155

(The applicant must ensure that all the above documents are formally translated into English by a professional translation service)

The outcome of the application for the Recognition of Licensure From Regulated Countries will be dependent on individuals obtaining Garda Vetting or a Police Clearance Certificate if practicing outside of Ireland. To apply for Garda Vetting please contact the Garda Vetting Officer at vetting@iacp.ie

Once an application is received an email receipt is sent to the Applicant. Please make sure that the email address is correct on your application and it is an address that you check regularly.

Fully completed applications are assessed by the Accreditation Department and the Accreditation Committee, if necessary.

When approved- a confirmation email and a PDF version of Certificate of Accreditation will be sent to you. 

Please note: As of January 2016 a hard copy of certificate of accreditation will be issued only on request. 

Any inaccurate or false information or omission of information on an application form shall render that application invalid.

If the application for the Recognition of Licensure From Regulated Countries is unsuccessful- an applicant might still apply for First Time Accreditation under the current criteria.


Application Processing Times

If there are no queries on the application this process will take approximately 10 weeks.

If there is a query on the application, you will be notified by email and the application will be reviewed by the Accreditation Committee. If this happens then it may take longer than 10 weeks to process.

If an application is not complete or additional information is required then the processing time may be longer.


Post Accreditation

Accredited Members are required to:

  1.  Abide by the IACP Code of Ethics and Practice and are subject to the IACP Complaints Procedure
  2. Meet IACP requirements for supervision for Accredited Members. See the Supervision Requirements page for full details.
  3. Maintain a CPD log annually
  4. IACP Accreditation is for a period of 1 year and is dependent on the annual membership fee being paid on time
  5. After 1 year the IACP Accredited Member is required to make a formal application to renew their Accredited Membership
