DRC - Existential Psychotherapy Workshop

Presenters Bio:

Allison Joyner (MIACP, MIAHIP, MSAI) is an accredited psychotherapist and supervisor.  She has a BA in Counselling & Psychotherapy, MA in Supervision and Post Qual Certificate in Group Facilitation, and Jungian Psychology with Art Therapy. She lectured in Dublin Business School for thirteen years on Existential Psychotherapy, teaching both the theoretical and psychotherapeutic application of Existentialism and Phenomenology. With over 17 years working in Counselling & Psychotherapy, she brings a broad range of experience across a wide range of disciplines including oncology, palliative care, community care, education, charities, and businesses.

Workshop Outline:

When talking about Existential Psychotherapy we must first look, albeit briefly, at the philosophy and the main thinkers who have influenced it. How can this philosophy help us in modern day dilemma’s? Do you agree with Victor Frankl that we create our own meaning? Or with Sartre’s assertion that we are ‘condemned to be free’. How do we sit with our clients around the uneasy topics of Death, Isolation, Meaning and Freedom? This workshop invites participants to creatively explore their own, and their clients, way of being in the world and our response to the existential ‘givens’ which are inevitable in life. Time will be allowed for break-out rooms so participants have the opportunity and space to explore their awareness of how existential matters arise in the therapy space and in their own lives.

CPD Certs will be emailed to participants after attendance at the Event
