NERC - Coercive Control


Presenters Bios: 

Ann Larkin began working with Women’s Aid Dundalk as a support worker in 2005 and from there she went on to serve as a Board member and held the role of Chairperson for nine years. Ann was appointed as Services Manager in 2017. Women’s Aid Dundalk provides a range of pre-crisis, crisis and post crisis services for women and children experiencing domestic abuse/coercive control. Ann holds a BA in Business (Management Studies), and a Higher National Diploma in Community Development.


Cara Murphy has been working with children & families in the Social Care field since 1986 in a variety of settings. She started working as a Support Worker with Women’s Aid Dundalk in January 2009. Taking a short break to work with Acquired Brain Injury Ireland for a couple of years, before returning back to Women’s Aid Dundalk in March 2016 in her current role as Support Coordinator. Cara’s role involves managing the Refuge, Support services, 1:1 support, 24 hour helpline, Outreach, Court Clinics, Supported Housing, Awareness raising & training. Cara has Social Care Training & a Level 8 qualification in Recognising & Responding to Domestic Violence/ Coercive Control.


Workshop Outline: 

Training format:

The training will be delivered in one 4-hour workshop, with a 30-minute break after two hours. Part one will focus on introducing Coercive Control; tactics and impact. Part two will focus on applying the learning to your work setting, creating an environment for disclosure, and building capacity to respond and refer as appropriate.

Learning Objectives:

· To increase knowledge and understanding of Coercive Control.

· To increase capacity to recognise Coercive Control.

· To increase knowledge and understanding of the impact of Coercive Control.

· To increase capacity in responding


 CPD Certs will be emailed to participants after attendance at the Event
