Presenter's Bio:

Sarah Butler, a dedicated Drug Education and Prevention Team Leader at Limerick City CDP, boasts over 25 years of invaluable experience supporting both young people and adults grappling with addiction or teetering on the edge of it. Specialising in Education and Training, She utilizes her highly specific skill set to target at-risk young individuals and adults. With a firm commitment to the harm minimization approach, She focuses on strategies that mitigate the harms associated with the misuse of substances. Her approach is rooted in addressing the realities of addiction and its profound impact on individuals, their families, and the broader community.

Sarah earned her BA Degree in Training and Education from University College Galway (UCG), a qualification she has effectively applied in her  mission to make a positive impact. Her strengths within the community have garnered recognition
through successful projects and glowing client testimonials, attesting to the growing demand for her professional services. Considering her proven track record and dedication, She remains a sought-after expert in the field, making meaningful contributions to the well-being of those
affected by addiction.


Workshop Outline:

Learn about drugs and their effects: Gain comprehensive knowledge about various substances, their effects, and the potential risks associated with drug use.                                                                              

  • Develop an understanding of addiction: Delve into the complexities of addiction, fostering a nuanced understanding of its psychological and
    physiological aspects                                                                                 
  • Become more effective in your responses: Equip participants with practical tools and strategies to enhance their personal responses when confronted with drug-related situations, empowering them to make informed decisions
  • Explore the effects of drug misuse on the family: Understand the ripple effects of drug misuse within the family unit, promoting empathy and awareness of the broader impact on relationships and dynamics
  • Develop the skills and knowledge to become more effective in responding to drug misuse: Empower participants to take an active role in their communities by providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to address drug misuse effectively. This includes fostering a sense of responsibility and community engagement
  • Examine your own attitudes: Encourage self-reflection as participants explore and evaluate their own attitudes towards drug use, fostering a more informed and empathetic perspective
