Alan Kavanagh is an accredited member of IACP. He is an integrative humanistic psychotherapist; he has specialised interest in men’s mental health. Throughout his career, he has worked in various roles and organisations to support men and boys. He has delivered presentations on this topic, and he consulted on a submission into the UK Parliament on the mental health of men and boys.
He is a social entrepreneur, and he developed a men’s mental health programme called Fire & Ice programme in 2018. Additionally, he is involved in several regional and national initiatives that promote help seeking behaviour in men and de-stigmatising therapy for men.
Engaging men in therapy effectively means understanding the barriers they face in seeking help and adapting your approach to address these challenges. Therapy with men often requires an understanding of the distinct societal and cultural pressures they may face and adapting therapeutic approaches to meet their needs. Therefore, empowering men effectively in therapy can involve several strategies tailored to address traditional gender norms and societal expectations that often discourage emotional expression among men.
CPD Certs will be emailed to participants after attendance at the Event
