James is an accredited psychotherapist with IACP . He is the founder of Rainbow Minds Centre, a specialist service working with the LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent communities. He is an international speaker on the intersectionality of queerness and neurodivergence and has delivered training to mental health professionals, educators, and organisations across multiple sectors.
He is also the programme lead for Ireland’s only specialist Diploma in Gender, Sex, and Relationship Diversity (IACP-accredited), designed to equip therapists with the necessary skills to work competently and affirmatively with GSRD clients. His work focuses on trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming, and culturally competent approaches in psychotherapy. He has extensive experience working directly with LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent clients, as well as training professionals in mental health and social care on affirming practices.
This workshop will provide an interactive introduction to working with the LGBTQ+ community. It will cover key concepts related to gender, sexuality, and relationship diversity, offering participants a deeper understanding of the specific challenges LGBTQ+ individuals may face in mental health settings.
Through discussion and practical engagement, participants will explore the foundations of affirming therapy, the impact of minority stress, and best practices for creating safe, inclusive therapeutic spaces. This session is designed to increase confidence and competence in working with LGBTQ+ clients in a respectful and informed way.
