Peter is the Head of Counselling, Wellbeing & Emotional Support for Vision Ireland. He has been with VI for 3 years.He is a qualified counsellor and Chartered Psychologist and has worked in private practice with adults and children over many years. Peter previously managed a number of Counselling and Support services in the charity and private sector. He has also worked directly with children in care in a residential setting. Peter has worked on a voluntary basis for numerous organisations, both in Ireland and abroad.
This 2 hour presentation aims to provide an introduction to the considerations and specific issues that are inherent in the provision of counselling support to clients who are blind or vision impaired. This will incorporate a number of sub-headings/topics to be explored:
• The technicalities – “What is Sight Loss”?
• Loss in the Context of Visual Impairment…emotional and mental health impact
• Framework of the commonly observed stages/point of impact/trigger points
• Overview of Counselling and Emotional
