Presenters Bio:

Dr. Daragh Keogh (D.Couns.Psych). is an Assistant Professor in the School of Psychology, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. He is a Counselling Psychologist, an EFT therapist and supervisor, and a psychotherapy researcher with a particular interest in emotion-focused therapy and emotional change processes.  He has been trial manager on three research trials investigating the efficacy of emotion-focused therapy, including a current trial investigating its effectiveness as an intervention for depression, anxiety and related disorders including obsessive-compulsive disorder and trauma.

He is the co-author of 'Transdiagnostic Emotion-Focused Therapy: A Clinical Guide for Transforming Emotional Pain' (2021, American Psychological Association). He is a director of the Institute of Emotion-Focused Therapy Ireland where he maintains a small private practice working with children, adolescents and adults.

Workshop Outline:

Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) is an evidence-based experiential psychotherapy in the humanistic tradition of Person-Centered and Gestalt therapy, influenced by family & systemic therapy, as well as by ongoing research in affective neuroscience. EFT is established as a treatment for depression, trauma, and in its couples’ format, relationship distress. It has also been applied to the treatment of eating disorders, and most recently, to the treatment of anxiety, specifically social anxiety and generalized anxiety.

Its application to other presentations including OCD is currently being investigated. EFT is a unique empirically based approach, based on decades of systematic research into therapeutic methods designed to help people attend to, accept, express, regulate, make sense of, and transform painful emotion.
