In Person - NERC Adolescents, Porn & The Role of Therapy

Presenter's Bio:

Tom is an accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP). Before becoming a therapist, he worked as a youth worker for over 12 years, supporting young people and their parents. In addition to his therapeutic work with adults and adolescents, he continues to engage with schools and community groups, regularly speaking to young people, parents, and educators on a wide range of topics related to mental health and wellbeing — including promoting porn literacy and healthy digital engagement.

Event Outline:

This workshop will explore the unique challenges faced in relation to pornography use by adolescents (ages 11-25). We’ll examine how the still-developing brain can render this cohort more vulnerable to both addiction and the formation of problematic patterns and expectations around sex and relationships.

Current statistics on adolescent porn use will be reviewed to consider how this data informs our clinical understanding. Potential therapeutic responses and tools will be explored, including how to sensitively explore the roots of problematic use, practical tools for intervention, and ways to support (and equip caregivers of) adolescents in developing a healthy, shame-free sexual identity.

CPD Certs will be emailed to participants after attendance
