The Science of Rhythm and Regulation

Overview

A day to understand your nervous system through science and song, reconnect with your body and feel safe in shared experience.

Every one of us carries a nervous system shaped by connection. When life becomes overwhelming, our bodies shift into protection long before our minds catch up. This event helps you understand those shifts and gives you tools to work with them.

Two guides lead the day through different yet complementary approaches:

Brendan McKiernan
Brendan is a registered Family Therapist and Somatic Experiencing practitioner. as part of Brendan's role as a family therapist he works with individuals, couples and families who are dealing with the impact of psychological trauma, both complex and related to a specific event (PTSD). in addition to his private practice, Brendan is currently engaged as a senior assistant teacher in Somatic Experiencing trainings in Spain, Scotland and England. Somatic Experiencing is an evidence-based, body-orientated approach to trauma which focuses on working with the impact of trauma on the nervous system. In addition to this work, he is a clinical supervisor working with individuals, organisations and MDT's. He is currently lecturing on the MSc in Systematic Family Therapy in U.C.D. Previously Brendan was director of Keltoi, an HSE residential rehabilitation facility for addiction and trauma. He has worked in the area of addiction and trauma for over twenty years.

Anna Mitchell uses rhythm, breath and voice to help you feel what the science describes.
