Presenter's Bio:
Mike has held the role of Senior Faculty for PCI College until 2021 and has recently joined the faculty and academic council for IICP College. He lectures on psychotherapy theory and practice at both Masters and Undergraduate level on a range of applied, pragmatic aspects of contemporary psychotherapy and supervision practice. Mike has developed short and long-form courses, CPD and workshop style training for a large number of private, public and professional bodies. He has worked as programme leader for the Advanced Diploma in Clinical Supervision with PCI College and is the co-facilitator of the Diploma in Integrative Supervision with IICP college.
Event Outline:
Introduction to Gender, Sexuality Relational Diversity in therapy Terms, Terminology & lived experience of GSRD presenting clients Exploring personal values, biases and perspectives on GSRD. Applying intersectionality as a means of supporting GSRD clients. Useful materials & signposting Check-out Close.
This short programme will employ theory input, skills development and personal reflection on the topic of clients presenting with Gender, Sexuality and Relational Diversity (e.g. LGBTQIA+, Trans clients, Monogamous and non-monogamous relational configurations etc.). Four sessions will capture the learning outcomes, and a range of pedagogical approaches including; small and large group dialogue, values identification and blind spot reduction using clinical vignettes, reflective writing and lecturer led input. These methods will contribute to a highly interactive, exciting experience for participants. By the end of this short, half-day session, participants will;
1. Have a better understanding of the complex world of GSRD and how it relates to LGBTQIA+ work
2. Understand important themes within this client cohort to ensure safe, ethical and professional practice with GSRD clients
3. Explore their values, biases, world views and beliefs which may impinge on the safe and effective support of this client cohort
4. Learn tools and methods for supporting this client cohort using case vignettes and case studies throughout the day
5. Feel much more confident in their therapeutic skills overall
