Body Psychotherapy Course

Saturdays (2027): March 6, April 17, May 15, June 12 | 22 CPD Points

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES OF THE EVENT

To embody, not just theory, a deeper understanding of how to integrate the body into psychotherapy practice

Day 1: The body and attachment: an understanding of attachment theory, sources: John Bowlby, Sue Gerhardt. Experiential exercise with two chairs showing, in physical form, how therapists and clients are usually attachment avoidant or attachment ambivalent, determined by where and how the therapist places his chair in relation to the therapist during the exercise.
Day 2: The Body and trauma: an understanding of how the body is in trauma. Sources: Peter Levine, Babette Rothschild. Experiential exercises: a boundary exercise with a rope on the floor around the standing therapist. Facilitator stepping in and out of the rope at the front, sides and back give the bodily experience of boundary intrusion, all with consent.

Day 3: An understanding of the conflicts between the body and mind eg body feeling grief and the belief ‘boys don’t cry’. Sources: mostly gestalt, fritz perls. Experiential using two chairs to separate the body side from the mind side, dialogue them until resolution is reached.
Day 4: An understanding of the deeper conflicts held in the different parts of the body. Learned from my training in London at the Minster Centre and sources: psychodrama by Moreno, gestalt by perls, object relations by Lavinia Gomez, who studied at the Minster Centre: a day long experiential exercise where different body parts are dialogued to find and resolve the conflicts.
