IACP Martin Ryan Postgraduate Bursary - July '25

IACP is introducing a bursary to support members in their professional development. The bursary is named in honour of Martin Ryan, who served as IACP’s Finance Manager for more than 13 years until his death in 2024. This support is offered in the spirit of Martin’s dedication to IACP and to the development of our profession.

Applications are now open for the first bursary, which will be awarded in 2026.

Policy

The bursary will be awarded on a competitive basis to Accredited IACP members. It will be paid towards the course fees of a postgraduate course such as an MA, MSc, MRes, PG Dip, or Supervision Diploma programme. The bursary is worth up to €3,500 per year of study, to a maximum of two years.

The award will be paid to the successful candidate upon proof of registration on the course detailed in their application. The bursary is not transferable to another course. Funds will be paid directly to the training provider. Funds for the second year (if applicable) will be paid upon proof of successful completion of the first year, including any exams or assessments.

All funds will be paid in good faith with the expectation that candidates will complete their chosen course. If for any reason a refund is paid by the course provider, this will be payable directly to IACP.

Bursary recipients will be encouraged to take part in advocacy opportunities for IACP. Upon completion of their studies, bursary recipients may, for example, be encouraged to submit an article for consideration by the Editorial Committee of the Irish Journal of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Application Process

To apply, candidates should submit their CV together with a statement of no more than 750 words, covering:

  • Full details of the course you wish to apply to (including its website).
  • How much you would like to apply for.
  • Why the training is of particular interest to you.
  • What difference the receipt of the bursary would make to your professional development.
  • A letter of support from an Accredited IACP member for your application.
  • Your consent for your data to be processed as per the Data Protection section of this policy below.

Applications should be addressed to the MR Bursary Panel and sent by email to IACP Accreditation Officer, Jackie Jeanneret: jackiej@iacp.ie

Timeline

The first instance of the bursary will be awarded to a candidate seeking to commence a course in 2026. The deadline for applications is 30th November 2025.

Applications will be reviewed according to a pre-defined marking scheme. Candidates will be notified as to the success of their applications in January 2026.

The bursary recipient will be publicly announced at the IACP Annual Conference on Saturday 18th April 2026. The successful candidate will be provided with a complimentary registration for the conference and one night’s accommodation.
