eMental Health report launched [16/05/18]

New and innovative ways technology can be utilised beneficially for those with mental illness

The Minister of State for Mental Health, Jim Daly TD has launched the eMental Health: State of the Art report at an event in Dublin. Welcoming today's report launch he said, ‘As the Minister with responsibility for mental health, events like this gives me an opportunity to see new and innovative ways that technology can be utilised beneficially for those with mental illness.’

Minister Daly also emphasised that Mental Health is a high priority area for this government and said, ‘We are living in a rapidly changing world and an age of information, where technology plays a significant role in our everyday lives. As reports like this emphasise, such technology also provides us with opportunities to deliver new and innovative mental health services effectively.’

Mental Health Reform is a National NGO in receipt of state funding. Its Director is Shari McDaid. Dr McDaid was a member of the National Taskforce on Youth Mental Health and attended the launch of that report last December at the Royal College of Surgeons. Mental Health Reform represents about 60 member organisations and sees its task as promoting improved mental health services and social inclusion of people with mental health difficulties in Ireland. The event is being organised by Mental Health Reform as part of the eMEN project.

eMEN is a six country European Union project. It is funded by the Interreg North-West Europe Programme. The eMEN project seeks to greatly accelerate the e-mental Health sector across Europe through showcasing products and organisations and formulating policies to meet the growing need of service users and service providers for technology to support mental health care. Mental Health Reform is the sole Irish partner in eMEN.

The event is organised by Mental Health Reform as a partner in the eMEN Interreg project. The eMEN project aims to contribute to e-mental health development and deployment in ways that address user needs and support service delivery.  Participants will include mental health service providers, voluntary sector organisations, technology developers, user groups, and academics/researchers.
