Award Celebrates Outstanding Contributions to the Counselling and Psychotherapy Profession

Dr Brian Conlon of Geevagh County Sligo was honoured with the West North West Regional Award at the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy 8th Annual Conference over the weekend.

The IACP Regional Awards recognise an IACP accredited member who makes a notable contribution to the profession of counselling and psychotherapy in their local community and region.

Dr Brian Conlon is a highly qualified, knowledgeable, experienced, accredited supervisor, psychotherapist and healthcare chaplain. Recently he was conferred with a Doctor of Theology in Clinical Pastoral Psychotherapy, and is a priest in the Diocese of Elphin.

Speaking today regarding this year’s awards IACP Chief Executive Officer Lisa Molloy stated:

“I would like to pay tribute to Dr Brian Conlon our West North-West Regional Award honouree for his dedication to the profession. As a well-established and respected supervisor, he has motivated and supported many counsellors and psychotherapists. Brian has had a positive and sustained impact in the West North-West Region and beyond.

In recent years, Brian has developed and presented innovative approaches to supervision, using the works of well-known international authors as a springboard for discussion on the nature of supervision and the role that the supervisor plays in the supervisor – supervisee relationship. These engaging discussions have proven to be very popular, and Brian has delivered them on multiple occasions to supervisors’ gatherings across the country.”

Commenting following the award IACP member Dr Brian Conlon noted:

“I am delighted to have been nominated by my peers in the West North-West Region for this award. I have greatly enjoyed presenting different approaches to supervision across the country and I hope that these approaches will have played a part in strengthening the supervisor – supervisee relationship. I would like to thank the West North-West Region Committee for their nomination, and I was honoured to accept this award at the IACP annual conference at the weekend”.

Dr Brian Conlon concluded:

“Personal therapy is the springboard of awards like this. The ongoing journey is the aim to be real in every encounter and here’s to all the people who taught me realness”.

The annual awards ceremony was held at the IACP’s 8th annual conference on the 21st October 2023 at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin.
